Marisa Alcaraz for City Council.

She fights for real change.
Marisa Alcaraz, a proven advocate for the working families of the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles, is the candidate for L.A.’s vacant 6th City District who fights for real change.
Marisa, a single mom who was born and raised in the Valley in a working-middle-class family, is the woman behind the scenes who brings communities together to successfully:
- champion landmark policies such as the $15 Minimum Wage and Hero Pay for frontline workers.
- work to build hundreds of affordable and permanent supportive housing units and bring a homelessness prevention program to the City.
- secure tens of millions in park funding to repair and upgrade parks.
- improve basic city services from tree trimming and sidewalk repair to safer streets.
With her experience as an advocate for workers and as Environmental Policy Director, Marisa Alcaraz will be able to hit the ground running to help bring about a new era for Council District Six and the LA City Council—one that is about unity and equity, about building up our neighborhoods and communities, empowering our youth, and being better leaders for the next generation to follow.
Marisa’s parents brought her up to value public service and to be an active member of her community. That’s what led her to pursue her fight for change at City Hall, where she has been working on policies that address environmental, social, and economic justice, and standing up for working-class families like hers. And that, combined with her integrity and experience, will make her a Councilmember who will bring about the change we need at City Hall.

This perspective candidate embodies the very definition of the American success story, continually setting the standards of excellence while expanding their interests in real estate, sports and entertainment. She is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance.

Team Alcaraz is fired up to announce the endorsement from UNITE HERE! Local 11 which represents 32,000 workers from hotels, restaurants, airports, sports arenas, and convention centers throughout Southern California and Arizona.
Truth is, I consider UNITE HERE! Local 11 family, which is why their support means the world to me. In 2014, we collaborated on the fight for the Hotel Living Wage, which opened the door for the Citywide $15 Minimum Wage.
Thanks to our collective efforts, this July, the minimum wage will increase yet again by .74 cents to $16.78 an hour! These are millions of dollars that will be going into the pockets of low-wage workers, which will in-turn be pumped back into our local economy. I look forward to going to battle once again with UNITE HERE! Local 11 as we continue to watch over hardworking Angelenos.

Team Alcaraz is firing on all cylinders, recently earning an endorsement from the Southern California Armenian Democrats (SCAD)! As the first and most prominent Armenian-American Democratic Club in California and the United States, this organization has built their mission around the promise of attaining equity and inclusion.
Thank you Southern California Armenian Democrats, your endorsement is especially important for me as I stand firmly in my role as a unifier. With your support behind me, I am ready to continue to build bridges of collaboration while bringing diverse communities together for the future of our families.

During the campaign trail, I have had the chance to connect with parents like me who want to improve the quality of life for families in District 6. It was so encouraging to hear directly from these community champions earlier this morning and discuss ways we can improve public safety, create greener neighborhoods, ensure our kids can walk or bike safely to school, and protect our environment for the sake of our children's children. I look forward to working with dedicated parents such as Estrella and Carlota as I make my way to becoming the first single mom to serve on the LA City Council.
Women run our families, our communities and with our knowledge, expertise and solutions, we can empower, strengthen and heal our City.

Emma and I took a field trip today joining legions of school staff, educators and allies demanding higher wages for special education assistants, cafeteria workers, custodians and bus drivers across LAUSD. While mommy has been fighting for dignified wages and workers’ rights for the last 15 years, this was Emma’s first rally. It was our way of saying thank you to the dedicated support staff that show up day after day for our children. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them. ... See MoreSee Less
